Southern Drawl Kayak Fishing, Sarasota FL
Guided kayak fishing in the saltwater backcountry from Tampa Bay to Pine Island Sound with highly experienced skipper, Steve Gibson. Target species include snook, redfish, speckled trout, tarpon and more. An active, adventurous and inexpensive alternative to traditional skiff fishing.
The fishing
The popularity of kayak fishing has exploded in recent years and it’s easy to see why – these ultra-quiet, stealthy crafts allow the angler to reach pockets of water that would otherwise be inaccessible, helping you get closer to the fish and connecting you to the environment in a way that’s not possible with other boats. Add in the fact that it’s a lot cheaper and the whole thing starts to make a lot of sense.
Fishing with Steve Gibson aboard one of his super-stable easy-to-paddle yaks is a great way to do it. Using a combination of fly and light-tackle spinning tactics, Steve fishes the waters of Tampa Bay, Sarasota Bay, Roberts Bay, Little Sarasota Bay, Blackburn Bay, Lemon Bay, Gasparilla Sound, Catfish Creek, Whidden Creek, Matlacha and Pine Island Sound for snook, redfish, speckled seatrout, ladyfish, jack crevalle and more.
Steve himself has an excellent pedigree, having been fishing the water around Florida for 35 years now. His writing and photography have appeared in magazines including Florida Sportsman, Fly Fishing in Salt Waters and Saltwater Fly Fishing to name just a few.
Steve can supply rods, reels, lures and leaders if required. A cooler, ice, water and all safety equipment is also provided.
