Fishing on Cuba’s South Coast

Until quite recently, the phenomenal flats fishery off Cuba’s south coast was something of an unknown quantity. Thankfully, for anyone lucky enough to get there, that’s all changed now. Thanks to pioneering companies like Avalon, the Jardines de la Reina archipelago is now a thriving (though well-managed) fishing destination where visiting anglers get to sample excellent bonefish, permit and tarpon fishing by day and superior accommodations on a mixture of floating and land-based hotels by night. Elsewhere in the south, you have the option to fish for baby tarpon in the Rio Hatiguanico, or bonefish on the flats of Las Salinas. And then there’s the incredible action only just being discovered in South Ana Maria and Isla de la Juventud.
