The Delphi Club is a little bit special – located in Rolling Harbour on Abaco’s east coast (about half an hour south of Marsh Harbour) this luxury lodge sits 50 feet above sea level, offering panoramic views of the Atlantic, upscale accommodation and incredible flats fishing for bonefish and even the odd permit. For those looking for somewhere special to take non-fishing companions, you’d be hard pushed to do better.

The fishing

As the folks at The Delphi Club say, “the fishing on Abaco is of top quality … the famous Marls on the west side of the island offer over 200 square miles of first-class bonefishing flats which also give anglers an occasional shot at permit and tarpon in the summer.

“On the east side, the sandy flats at Cherokee Sound provide more great bonefishing options, including some gorgeous wading flats. Whether wading alone on the flats, paddling a kayak or poling gently through the mangroves in a guided skiff, fishermen will enjoy many opportunities to cast to these most powerful but stealthy of fish.”

The facilities

It might look grand, and The Delphi certainly scores well in the elegance and refinement category, yet it’s anything but stuffy. Manager Sandy Walker, who previously worked at The Delphi Lodge in Ireland, works hard to ensure it retains a laidback feel and that the house is run “in the style of a classical houseparty, where the characters change from time to time. Everyone generally eats together at one big table from a set menu. There are no bell hops or room service – it’s just a relaxed gathering of kindred spirits.”

There are eight rooms in total, all with ocean views and super-kingsize or queensize twins, infinity pool and patio with comfortable sun loungers, a Great Room featuring dining table and discreet honesty bar, and a well-stocked library.

Resident chef, Gareth Reid from Ireland, trained under Tom Aikens in London and has worked in several Michelin-starred restaurants in Europe.

Every aspect of the operation has been carefully considered and meticulously planned. All of which means that if you’re a fisherman who regularly travels with non-fishing companions, this is the place to come. Rest assured that, while you’re out on the water, they’ll be just as happy as you. Well, probably.
