Fishing in Guatemala

Welcome to the Sailfish Capital of the World. If you look at Guatemala on the map, it’s hard to see exactly what would make it such a sensational offshore fishery – it doesn’t have the island structure of Panama for example, or the peninsulas that shape Costa Rica’s abundant Pacific fishery.  What you can’t see on any map, however, is a unique marine environment: strong west-to-east currents from Mexico hit east-to-west currents moving up from El Salvador resulting in a huge natural eddy – a nutrient-filled soup brimming with baitfish, pelagic species and, of course, huge numbers of sailfish. But it’s not just about sails – you can expect to encounter marlin, dorado and yellowfin tuna, and plenty of roosterfish inshore. Choose from our selection of the finest Guatemala fishing lodges and resorts below or browse the map to find your desired location…
