Fishipedia Trip Report: Kooi Noom, Patagonia – Day 4
December 15th, 2014| No Comments
It’s day four in Patagonia and Ben gets a lesson in fly selection from Kooi Noom’s owner and fishery manager, Nico Trochine…
Day 4 – Nico’s Way
My guide for the week is Alex Trochine, owner and manager of the fishing at Kooi Noom. Watching Alex fish is a pleasure, his technique in the wind is brilliant and he can always be relied upon to hook up. In the picture below, you can see the build-up to him hooking a strong, fresh lake rainbow in the Capitan River on a dry-fly pattern.
The behaviour of the rainbows can be erratic as they prepare to spawn. We find them moving towards bobbers and hoppers when fished with a nymph. So Alex experiments with a dry-only rig and before long, this is what happens.
To find out more about Nico (and his twin brother Alex) who run the fishery at Kooi Noom, check out www.farawayflyfishing.com.
