A beautiful lodge in Northern KwaZulu Natal overlooking Lake Jozini, the Lebombo Mountains and the Pongola Game Reserves. Privately owned and managed by the Blevin family who have lived in the area for many years, Shayamoya is a friendly and intimate lodge offering access to excellent tigerfishing in the Pongolapoort Lake.

The fishing

Tigerfish might be relatively rare to South African waters, but there are certainly plenty of them in the waters around Sayamoya Lodge. Good sizes have been caught in the Pongolapoort Lake where the official record is 8.3kg. There is also a ranch dam, which is stocked with bass as well as tigerfish. The lodge has a good selection of fishing rods and tackle for hire, but bring your own fly rods and tackle. Fishing trips are conducted in a 16’ Hustler (max two anglers), 18’ Dorado (max three anglers) and a flat-bottomed fly-fishing boat (max four anglers). For bigger groups, the 20’ game viewing boat is used.

The facilities

There are eight standard chalets, all with a private deck and outdoor shower. Two honeymoon suites benefit from superior views and all chalets are built of local wood and stone to blend into their wild surrounding. Well-manicured pathways link the chalets with the central lodge – it’s not uncommon to see duiker, zebra and guinea fowl as you wonder along this path. There’s a restaurant/bar in the main lodge, along with a swimming pool and gift shop.
As well as fishing, Shayamoya Lodge offers excellent access to superb game-watching, including white rhino, wildebeest, zebra, warthog and giraffe.
