No guide to The Bahamas would be complete without a nod to this extraordinary Paradise Island resort. The sprawling ocean-themed Atlantis offers a variety of accommodation choices in its 2,000 rooms (none of them cheap) and more amenities than you could get through in a year. It might not be on the average fisherman’s list of places to stay but it’s a good option for overnighting en route to the Out Islands.

The facilities

The rooms are spread between the Beach Tower, Coral Tower, Royal Tower, The Reef, Harbourside Resort and The Cove Atlantis. If you’re looking for something more affordable (just) head for the Beach Tower. If money’s not a concern, the Harbourside Resort is the place to go. In terms of facilities, you’ll be spoilt: an 18-hole golf course, spa, tennis courts, fitness center, rock climbing facilities, speedway, theatre and, of course, fishing charters.

The fishing

The concierge will be more than happy to help you organise a day’s fishing. You can choose from a half or full day trip through “International Yacht Collection,” located in the Atlantis marina Dock Masters office. Rates are inclusive of the rental of the entire vessel, captain, mate, fishing gear, snorkeling gear and soft drinks. Deep-sea fishing, reef fishing and bonefishing are all on offer.

Rooms from approximately $300 per night all the way up to $25,000 per night for the Bridge Suite in The Royal Tower.
Speak to the hotel directly about fishing rates.
