Matemo Island Resort – Quirimbas Archipelago, Mozambique
Matemo Island is located in the breathtaking Quirimbas Archipelago in northern Mozambique. This tropical island paradise is surrounded by drop-offs, reefs and channels, providing the setting for all kinds of species and fishing scenarios.
The fishing
Just eight kilometres long and three kilometres wide, Matemo Island is a magical destination. A 20-minute flight from Pemba on the mainland deposits guest in a tropical island paradise. And the fishing’s pretty good too. Matemo is famous for giant trevally but there are plenty of other species here, including king mackerel, tuna, wahoo, dorado and the occasional marlin. There’s also the option to shore fish at high tide for barracuda, with some bonefish present too.
The facilities
Guests are accommodated in chalets, each of which features spacious en-suite bathrooms, outside showers and deck hammocks. Local Makuti palm roofs are offset by glamorous touches such as local white marble, ornate carved doors from Zanzibar and rich furnishings and rugs from Dubai.
Rates
Beach chalets from $437 per person (full board including all meals, tea, coffee, bottled water, laundry, non-motorised watersports and marine reserve fees).
Fishing is extra.
