Once derided as a ‘trash’ fish and dismissed by fly-fishermen as a mud-dwelling menace not worthy of a shotgun round, let alone a fly, the humble carp has had something of an image overhaul of late.

Gradually, people seem to have come round to the idea that carp on the fly are great fun – and now everyone’s at it. Hardly surprising when you think about it. You can sight-fish them, they’re a wily adversary (but they will readily take a fly), and they take you to the backing every time. What’s not to like?
