Cuba fishing holidays going cheap

January 16th, 2011| No Comments

Get your best salsa boots on and have that cigar lighter at the ready – Cuban fishing specialists Avalon are offering a special deal for April this year, at their incredible Isle of Youth fishery.

For bookings between April 9 and April 23, you can bag yourself a week of prime flats fishing, combined with a stay at Gerona’s Hotel Rancho for just €2,490 per angles (providing you have a minimum of four gusts in your group). That compares with the usual rate of €3,650 at the same time of year. (For groups of less than four anglers the price is still an excellent €2,990 per person).

And if you’re able to gather together a group of eight, you’ll only pay for seven, with the eighth member of the group going free. For anglers looking to fish on a single skiff, Avalon is offering this service for a €990 supplement.

Take advantage of any of these deals and you’ll be heading to a unique fishery off Cuba’s Isle of Youth. Lying off the southern coast of Cuba, just 25 minutes flying time from Havana, this Avalon-controlled fishery is a light-tackle and fly-fishing haven.

Fishing options are diverse, with deeper, turtle grass flats perfect for poling, hard-bottomed wading flats and plenty of deeper channels and cuts. Bonefish are present in huge numbers with an average size of around 5lb, permit schools are often sighted, and the tarpon fishing is spectacular (with averaging around 60lb in size). The abundance of snook close to the shore makes this the perfect place for those seeking a saltwater super slam.
