Ascension Bay Fishing Report with Captain Greg Rahe

Captain Greg Rahe, guide and owner of Club Grand Slam on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, warns against that deadliest of sins – the dreaded trout set…

April was pretty good to Ascension Bay anglers considering we were coming off the coldest March in memory. Every group took advantage of our varied fishery and had fun stalking bones, permit, tarpon, snook and all the bonus species.

The mortal sin of trout setting kept many from completing their grand slams and continues to be a hard habit to break for fresh water anglers. Remember to keep that rod tip pointed at the fish and just come tight. And then wait for the fish to react.

I know, easier said than done, when your heart is in your throat!
