Orange Hill Beach Inn – Nassau, Bahamas
From a fisherman’s point of view, Orange Hill Beach Inn seems to serve one primary function: its proximity to the airport and comparatively low prices make it the stopover venue of choice for those on their way to the Out Islands. It’s clean and comfy, if not fancy, the food is great and you’ll find plenty of cold beer in the honesty bar.
The facilities
There are 32 rooms (with a choice of studios, poolside, apartments and cottages), all of which have a balcony or patio and kitchenette. It might not be as glitzy an option as the hotels on Cable Beach, but it’s cheaper as a result, the rooms are clean, it’s got a nice out-of-the-way feel, and downtown Nassau is easily accessible by cab or bus. There’s a restaurant on site, an honesty bar, a pool, free Wi-Fi in the lobby and front bar, and the hotel provides a daily grocery run each morning.
The fishing
There are a number of fishing charters operating out of Nassau (with options for both flats and deep-sea fishing), but really, if you’ve come this far and you’re serious about your fishing, you should probably try and push on to the Out Islands. Andros is only a 10-minute flight, where you’ll find some of the planet’s finest bonefishing, and all the other islands are also easily accessible via Nassau. The Orange Hill Beach Inn is the perfect jump-off point.
