Pira Lodge – Corrientes, Argentina
Another from Nervous Waters’ excellent portfolio of lodges, Pira Lodge is a beautiful destination situated in the Ibera Marshes of Corrientes. In addition to upscale accommodation and stunning scenery, anglers have access to something unique; the pursuit of gold. Golden dorado, to be exact, the aggressive “river tigers” that abound in nearby waters.

The fishing
Fishing for golden dorado is explosive and spectacular, particularly when fishing with a fly rod or light spinning outfit. Fish are often found on the edges of eddies, riffles, sharp bends in the river, and close to floating beds of water hyacinth. Guides will use skiffs to get you as close to the fish as possible, and thanks to the excellent water quality here, sight fishing is often possible. The dorado fishing season runs December through to May.
The facilities
Accommodating a maximum of 10 guests, the lodge has only five bedrooms, each one air-conditioned, with two double beds and large bathrooms. The lodge also boasts a 20m pool, sitting room, fly-tying table and on-site tackle shop. The food comes highly recommended and there’s a fully-stocked bar.
Rates
7 nights/6 days fishing: $4,900 (based on double occupancy and shared guide)
