Fishing in Panama

In many ways, Panama still represents something of an undiscovered gem on Central America’s tourist trail. And while the secret is out regarding fishing on Panama’s Pacific coast (certainly where the spectacular billfishing is concerned), there are also some incredible fishing opportunities for the intrepid fisherman on the Caribbean side. The Bocas del Toro archipelago for example, is home to some world-class tarpon fishing, along with great inshore sport for jacks, snook, barracuda, tuna, mackerel and even the occasional bonefish and permit.
A short cross-country hop in a southerly direction and Panama’s incredible Pacific fishery opens up before you. Deep-sea aficionados flock here for the abundant black, blue and striped marlin & sailfish sport, while the inshore action from roosterfish, jacks, snapper (and plenty more) is staggering. Fishing in Panama is a serious business, and the quality of its lodges and charters reflects that. The offshore crews here are among the finest in the world. Find out about the best Panama fishing lodges, guides and charters below or browse the map to find your desired location…

Cayo Coco is a small island linked with Cuba by a 17km man-made road over the sea, and on Cayo Coco sits the Sol Melia Resort, occupying a white sand beach bordered by palm trees, just 1km from the reef. Local fishing guides are available at reasonable rates but the great thing about this hotel is that it’s one of the few places in Cuba where DIY fishing is possible. That makes it great for those on a budget or travelling with a non-fishing spouse and only able to grab the odd day here and there.

Fishing in Cuba

Welcome to the land of socialism, salsa, classic cars and the finest cigars. And now, thanks to a careful environmental stewardship policy, Cuba also has some extraordinary and relatively unspoilt fishing to add to that list. You can follow in Hemingway’s footsteps and chase marlin in the deep sea, or you can head south to the offshore archipelago of Jardines de la Reina and sample some mind-blowing flats sport in pristine surroundings. Either way, you won’t be disappointed. People call Cuba the “land of miracles”. Come fishing here and you’ll get an idea why…
