The fishing

Fishing the Tampa Bay area gives you a great shot at sight-casting to redfish and (in season) tarpon in clear water, while there are usually plenty of snook in the mangroves and creeks.

Captain Nick’s tarpon charters, however, are usually run from Sarasota up the coast to Homosassa, and as Nick himself says: “This is the World Series of angling… the crystal clear flats and white sandy beaches here offer spectacular sight fishing for tarpon. Fly fishing Tampa for these giants challenges more popular areas like the Florida Keys. There is limited pressure early and late in the season (March, April, July, and August). Fly anglers will have shots at hungry fish. During the main season there are lots of fish to keep every tarpon fly fishing enthusiast busy.”

As far as redfish go, Nick rates the Chassahowitzka Wildlife Refuge near Homosassa as one of his favourites, thanks to the numbers of tailing or cruising fish.

With over 15 years of guiding experience, Captain Nick prides himself on being “an enthusiastic and patient guide who welcomes both novice and experienced anglers”.
