The fishing

Fly Fish Ireland specialise in both lure and fly-fishing for pollock, bass (saltwater) and pike.

Much of the bass fishing takes place in Cork Harbour, which has developed a reputation as one of the country’s finest bass hotspots and it’s easy to see why – with its wide-ranging sub-surface features, inlets, rips and sheltered bays, this is prime bass territory, and a stunning place to cast a line. Guided fly-fishing here takes place on FFI’s Seaboss 180 cc center console skiff powered by a 90hp outboard. It can accommodate two fly anglers.

Successful patterns include Lefty’s Deceiver (chartreuse is always popular) and clousers in a range of colours. A 7 or 8-weight fly rod should be sufficient.

Fly-fishing for trout and sea trout in rivers and lakes can also be arranged. Fly Fish Ireland can also arrange accommodation at various hotels, B&Bs and lodges in the area.
