Early Bird Charters – Sandy Bay, Roatan, Honduras
With a selection of different boats at their disposal, from a 17’ flats boat up to the 38’ Yascustres, Early Bird Fishing Charters provide the full spectrum of fishing trips. Fly-fishing on the flats for bonefish and permit, live-baiting on the reef and deep-sea fishing are all possible.
The fishing
Headed up by Captain Loren Monterroso (a native of Roatan), Early Bird Fishing Charters can provide a charter for all persuasions. His 17’ black tip is perfect for stalking bonefish and permit on the flats or live-baiting along the reef, while his two 24’ boats and another of 38’ are perfect for deep-sea trips where you can expect to encounter yellowfin tuna, blackfin tuna, dorado, wahoo, barracuda, shark, marlin and sailfish.
One of the great things about this fishery is that the reef is only a couple of hundred feet from shore, meaning you won’t have to go far to get to the deeper waters.
In terms of flats fishing, bonefish are present in excellent numbers (weighing an average 2-4lbs), as are permit, which are mostly in the 5-15lb class. There are also decent quantities of tarpon up to 50lb (peak season being from October to January) in the canal systems. Of course, jacks, cudas, snapper and snook are also present.
