Captain Bertrand Fenart – Morbihan, Brittany, France
Operating out of Arradon in south-west Brittany, Captain Bertrand Fenart specialises in fishing for bass in the calm waters of the Gulf of Morbihan. Fishing out of a speedy, highly manoeuvrable RIB, Bertrand brings the experience that only comes through being a lifelong resident of the area, and offers full and half days on the water.
The fishing
If you take a look at the Gulf of Morbihan on Google Maps, it won’t take you long to work out what makes this place so special – not just as a fishery, but as a haven for wildlife of all sorts. Sheltered from the Atlantic by the Rhuys Peninsula, this bay (which takes its name from Breton word meaning “little sea”) is roughly 12 miles long, 6 miles wide, and peppered with islands (50 or so in total) and oyster beds that are washed by shallow, calm waters. It’s a unique environment and one that bass love. Fish from 3-6 kilos are taken, but schoolies up to 2 kilos are provide the bulk of the sport.
All methods are welcome aboard Bertrand’s RIB – from drifting with lures and live bait to fly-fishing. The boat is equipped with top-of-the-range equipment and tackle. Bertrand speaks excellent English for those of you whose French isn’t quite up to speed.
