True to its nature, March has come in like a lion with lots of wind, storm fronts and up and down temperatures. The water levels of the lagoon system have been fluctuating 6-12 inches which is significant when talking about flats that only have 2 feet of water or less at high levels. Despite the crazy weather, the fishing has remained strong.

Currently whipping up a storm on the Fly Fishing Film Tour is Key West guide Will Benson’s “Silver Lining”. It’s not hard to see why. With incredible footage of tarpon schooling on the flats, eating flies next to the skiff and generally blowing holes in the ocean, it’s one of the finest pieces of work we’ve seen in a while. But that’s only half the story.

Of all the places I’ve fished, Andros is the one I spend the most time day-dreaming about. That could be because I’ve been lucky to fish there more than once, perhaps it’s the people I’ve met there, it might be the Kalik-soaked evenings at the end of a solid day on the water… or it might just be the abundance of fish coupled with a likelihood that you’ll run into a barrel-sized bonefish at some point. More likely, it’s all of the above, but it’s a special place and this 16-minute video captures it at its best. The footage is pretty raw and there’s no narrative as such – and it’s all the better for it:

Bonefishing is an expensive hobby at the best of times, but prices in the Turks & Caicos would be enough to make even Richard Branson think twice. Not a huge surprise, then, to see this guy going it alone on the flats down there. GoPro stuff doesn’t always work, but this offering makes a pretty good fist of it. Bonus points for having the cojones to even bother casting to the last fish too…
