The fishing

Vamizi Island’s proximity to the world-famous St. Lazarus Banks means one thing; lots of bluewater game fish. Marlin, sailfish, yellowfin and dogtooth tuna, wahoo and dorado all abound in these waters, and the lodge’s skippers know how to find them. Spectacular drop-offs sit just a kilometre from the shore, meaning short travel times to the fishing grounds. Methods of fishing include trolling/trawling, jigging, live-baiting, popping, drop shot, bottom fishing and bluewater fly-fishing.
Deep-sea fishing trips will see you aboard the lodge’s 28’ Magnum, equipped with the latest electronics and top-notch tackle. There are other, smaller boats which can be used inshore.
And don’t forget to bring your fly rod – garfish, milkfish and queenfish are frequently found in the inshore waters. There are even a few bonefish knocking about (although not so many that you’d want to rely on them).

The facilities

There are 13 bedrooms in all (with a selection of one- and two-bedroom properties), all of which are right on the shoreline. Rooms have been designed to make full use of space and natural breeze, and to provide you with sense of remoteness and serenity. You won’t find TV and wireless internet here.
No matter, you’ll be too busy fishing anyway. And when you’re not doing that, you’ll be birdwatching, snorkelling, diving, kayaking, reading, enjoying spa treatments, beachcombing and drinking cocktails at the bar.
