Hotel Sol Club – Cayo Largo, Cuba
Since April 2008 the incredible Cayo Largo fishery has been under the management of Avalon Fishing Center. As this is a full resort and not just a fishing lodge, it’s the ideal Cuban destination for the fisherman away with family or non-fisherman friends. In Cayo Largo you can bonefish on white sand flats while your family relax on the beach and make the most of the amenities at the Hotel Sol Club.
The fishing
The beginning of the season (November to January) sees plenty of bonefish on the flats and mangrove areas, while fishing for tarpon and other species can also be excellent. However, peak season is from February to June, when all species are abundant in the area; migratory tarpon (averaging 15-30lbs) are regularly spotted and shots at permit are frequent.
In the late season the weather gets hot but the fishing is still very productive, especially for tarpon and permit. Fishing for bonefish is also very good in the morning and in the evening.
