The fishing

Most of your fishing will be done in the middle and southern end of Acklins Island, an area boasting miles of flats, mangroves and creek systems lining the shoreline.

Bonefish are the primary target, with excellent numbers of decent-sized fish available year-round.

With access to many easily wadeable flats, Salina Point Lodge gives you the option of some top-notch DIY bonefishing – you will be handed a pack lunch, given advice on where to go and sent on your way. You will have use of a vehicle, kayak, or be dropped off and picked up by a Salina Point staff member. There will also be locations only reachable by water, in which case you will be shuttled by boat.

The fishing program here is very diverse, with anglers fishing a different piece of water every day. There is also an excellent flat right in front of the lodge with bonefish, triggerfish and barracuda only a cast away. For anglers who would like to be guided (either by boat or with a wade guide) for any portion of their stay, just let the folks at Salina Point know, and they’ll arrange it for you.

Even those who prefer the DIY thing are advised to spend at least a day with a guide – head guide Fidel Johnson is great fun to fish with and will offer more local insight in a day than you could amass in weeks.

The facilities

Set in 10 acres of land, and sitting right on the beach, the lodge features five large guest rooms with queen beds, all of which are air conditioned. There is a spacious main dining room where meals are served, a bar and a large deck where you can relax with a drink.

Dinner is Bahamian style, featuring fresh local seafood, and the bar is fully stocked, offering beer, wine and liquor.

There are two flights on Bahamasair into Acklins Island each week. These flights are on Wednesdays and Saturdays. Additionally, Pineapple Air now provides two flights weekly into Ackins on Mondays and Fridays.
