Rio Parismina Lodge – Parismina, Costa Rica
A tarpon aficionado’s dream resort. This fishing lodge, located on the Caribbean coast of Costa Rica, is built on 50 acres of lush jungle on the banks of the famous Parismina River, and offers upscale accommodations along with some of the world’s finest tarpon and snook fishing.
The fishing
Rio Parismina’s guests usually have one thing on their mind – tarpon. Huge schools of the silver kings can be found in the waters close to the lodge. They can be taken on a variety of methods, from lures to fly, and are present in decent numbers throughout the year. The snook fishing at Rio Parismina Lodge is also worthy of a mention, and the folks here are rightly proud of their record in this regard. The lodge boasts four IGFA world-record snook, including the men’s all tackle line class 53lb whopper caught by Gilbert Ponzi. This is currently the largest Atlantic snook to have ever been caught on a rod and reel. Farther back in the jungle lagoons and rivers, there is great sport to be had on light fly and spinning gear from the likes of machaca, guapote, mojara and mangrove snapper.
Days start with breakfast at 5.30am (meaning you might have jumped your first tarpon by 6am), you’ll fish till 11am or so, before heading in for lunch and a rest and then get back out on the water at 2pm and fish until dark. Fishing is done from the lodge’s dedicated fleet of 21’ modified v-hull ocean craft, all of which are custom designed and built especially for Parismina’s ocean conditions. Surf fishing can also be arranged.
The facilities
The lush jungle setting provides the perfect backdrop to the spectacular fishing at Rio Parismina. The accommodations are similarly classy, with well-furnished cabins, Jacuzzis, swimming pool, hammocks and excellent dining, including appetizers served daily on the verandah. A focus on personal attention rounds off the Rio Parismina experience.
