The fishing

The fishing at Kooi Noom is as varied as it is challenging. You can expect to catch rainbows of between 5 and 25lb from lake shores, bays, fast-moving pocket water, streams and everywhere in between. The fishing is highly technical, dynamic and seriously rewarding due to a combination of a steep gradient river and a rich lake system.

The trout in these waters have grown very big, meaning they fight hard and run repeatedly. A smaller spring creek can also provide great sport. The beauty of fishing Kooi Noom is its versatility. There’s a perfect mix of moving and still water, each holding different challenges. The fish here have hardly ever seen a fly.

Lodging & facilities

The location is a remote, pristine part of the western Patagonian steppe. It’s a working estancia with the majestic Andes in full view. A variety of wildlife inhabits this region, from the deer-like guanaco to eagles and wildflowers.

The traditional-style lodge caters for up to for six anglers, with three double rooms and newly decorated private bathrooms. There is also a warm living space to relax after fishing as well as a separate dining room. The lodge has two on-site wind turbines that provide 24-hour electricity. Wi-Fi is available.

Meals are prepared by the chef daily. Dishes such as lamb roasted on an open fire or an asado (barbecue) are typical fare. There’s plenty of top-quality Argentine produce on the wine list and an extensive spirit bar. Other activities include horse riding and hiking.
