Jungle Tarpon Lodge – Parismina, Costa Rica
Sitting just at the edge of the Tortuguero National Park on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast is this intimate jungle fishing lodge. Blessed with surroundings of incredible beauty and with excellent tarpon fishing on its doorstep, this is a perfect destination for groups of two to 14 anglers.
The fishing
The “silver king” is the focus of attention here. Each day begins with an early morning cup of Costa Rican coffee and for the rest of your day, you and your local guide will cast a lure or fly to schools of tarpon – sometimes in the Caribbean Sea and sometimes in the quiet lagoons of jungle rivers. Whether offshore in the morning or in-river under the rainforest canopy after lunch, the target will be tarpon. Snook, quapote and offshore species will spice up your day, but this place is called Jungle Tarpon for good reason. Your charters will end when you say “Let’s go back for happy hour” or when your arms are too tired. And if that’s not enough, you can always have a go at surfcasting at the river’s mouth.
The facilities
Specializing in intimate groups of two to 14, The Jungle Tarpon Lodge is one of Costa Rica’s most deluxe and unique Caribbean jungle adventures. Nestled in a 100-acre jungle setting, bounded by the Parismina River lagoon and the Caribbean Sea, this lodge sits just at the edge of the Tortuguero National Park. Large rooms, fully tiled floors and bathrooms, plus open beam ceilings make this a tasteful and elegant place to relax when you need a break from fighting tarpon.

I wanted world class fishing and I got it. I wanted rustic, to get away from noise and pollution and I got it there. I wanted a reasonable degree of comfort (it is a fishing trip) and good food and I got it. The folks who work at JTL are friendly and helpful. It appears there have been recent renovations and it was very clean throughout. No complaints. Perhaps a little easier to get to from the airport, but its a jungle area, not metropolitan. If you want all the comforts of home, then stay at home. If you truly want to get away, this is the place. Thanks!
