By day, fishermen are guided around the incredible Isla Blanca fishery and by night are accommodated at the all-inclusive Blue Bay Club.
The fishing
The flats and mangrove-lined lagoons at the vast and often underrated Isla Blanca fishery are home to an amazing number of permit, baby tarpon, snook and some bonefish. From top-water ‘blow-up’ grabs from baby tarpon to sight fishing to cruising permit on the flats, this is a fishery of incredible diversity, and one that gives you a realistic possibility of the grand slam. The prime months to fish Isla Blanca are April through November.
Fishing is done from 18’ pangas, all of which are equipped with an extensive front casting deck – with hundreds of square miles to fish, these powerful, fast pangas are able to extend to the far reaches of this amazing fishery. Each one is equipped with rod holders and two padded bench seats for your comfort.
Most anglers prefer to fish 8- or 9-weight rods at Isla Blanca. On calm days, an 8-weight will suffice, but when weather conditions and/or size of fish dictate, 9-weight rods are the order of the day. Most fishing is done with floating lines in shallow water, so suitably lightweight flies and accurate presentations are required.
Lodging & facilities
Anglers are accommodated at the convenient, all-inclusive Blue Bay Club just north of Cancun. This full-service resort offers a host of services and amenities – restaurants, bars, swimming pools and private beach. Its location away from the ‘hotel zone’ of Cancun ensures convenient access to the boat docks at Isla Blanca (20 minute drive).
Each spacious guest room has an ocean view, two full-sized beds, air-conditioning, cable TV and a full private bath with shower. There is daily housekeeping service that cleans the rooms and replaces linens, towels, bottled drinking water, cups, and bar soap/shampoo each day. Your all-inclusive package at the Blue Bay Club includes meal and beverage services at any of the hotel restaurants, buffets and bars.
