A sportfisherman’s paradise lying 400 miles south-west of the main island Mahe, Farquhar Atoll is the most southerly atoll in the Seychelles chain. Measuring 11 miles north to south and six miles east to west, Farquhar comprises the islands Ile du Nord, Ile du Sud, along with the smaller Manaha and Goëlettes Islands, and the Trois Isles.

A remote and unforgiving environment, Farquhar is almost completely uninhabited – from a human perspective at least. Its waters, however, are filled with a mind-boggling array of fish. From wading hard-bottomed flats in search of monster GTs and double-digit bonefish to bluewater sport with wahoo, yellowfin tuna and dogtooth tuna (to name just a few), this place has the lot. It’s a long journey, one that should only be undertaken by proficient and dedicated fishermen, but it’s worth it.

The fishing

On the flats you’ll find bonefish (lots of them, and most of them big), various trevally species (including trophy-sized giant trevally), permit, triggerfish, barracuda, bumphead parrotfish and milkfish. Every new day will bring a new challenge. Make sure you take the requisite gear to cover every eventuality – from 8- or 9-weight fly rods for bones all the way up to 12-weights for the GTs. And make sure you’ve got plenty of spares on standby – you don’t fish for GTs without getting run into the coral at least once.

From a bluewater perspective, expect to find giant trevally, barracuda, wahoo, yellowfin tuna, dogtooth tuna, grouper, snapper and sailfish. Anglers will be transported from the lodge to the fishing grounds in four 17′ skiffs, designed and fitted to fish both the flats and offshore waters in comfort and safety.
