Located in the Katmai National Park, this Alaska fishing lodge is one of three destinations belonging to the Angler’s Paradise operation (along with Grosvenor and Kulik Lodges), and offers fishing and comfortable lodging in a truly remote setting. Fishermen can opt for guided trips or do-it-yourself options, and with an excellent programme of bear-watching and local hiking trips, this is also a great place for the non-fisherman.

The fishing

The Brooks River, one of Alaska’s most famous rainbow trout streams, flows within walking distance of the Brooks Lodge. You’ll also find good grayling, char and salmon fishing in the area.
According to the folks at the lodge, “Brooks Lodge fishing packages are for independent minded fly-fishermen who want to experience the great sport fishing of the Katmai area without the expense of a fully guided sport fishing lodge. Including fly-outs in your stay will provide the means to fish other hotspots and allow you to take advantage of the variety of species available in southwest Alaska.”

Lodging & facilities

With 16 modern rooms (accommodating two to four people), all with modern private facilities, Brooks is a slightly larger lodge than Angler’s Paradise’s other two options. The main lodge boasts a view of Naknek Lake and a large circular fireplace, making it the perfect spot for post-fishing relaxation. Food is served buffet-style three times a day.
In addition to the spectacular fishing, Brooks Lodge is an excellent place to simply appreciate the wonders of nature. As well as the volcanic Valley of 10,000 Smokes just 22 miles away, nearby Brooks Falls is the perfect place for bear-watching – it’s home to as many as 50 of these majestic beats during salmon season.
