A superb addition to Abaco’s excellent selection of bonefish lodges. Accommodating up to four anglers, each with their own private room, the Black Fly Bonefish Club presents itself as “a very private and exclusive fishing excursion,” offering some of the best permit fishing available in the Bahamas, all within easy reach of the US mainland.

The fishing

The world-class, largely unpressured fishing grounds that surround Black Fly Bonefish Club and the town of Schooner Bay form six zones, each rich in a variety of species, with bonefish, permit, tarpon, mutton snapper, sharks and barracuda among them.

According to the folks at Black Fly, “the guides up north don’t need to come this far south and the guys in the south don’t need to come this far north, so that leaves us in the middle with Moore’s Island and Gorda Key as the prize fishing grounds of Abaco.”

Abaco is known as one of the best permit fisheries in the Bahamas, and Black Fly reckon to have access to the best action in and around Abaco. According to Vaughn Cochran, “I guided in the keys for many years, I fished the Marquesas, I’ve lived in Belize and know that permit fishery well and I would put the permit fishing in Abaco up against any of those places.”

The facilities

In the private seaside lodge, all guests enjoy superb, comfortable facilities, with private rooms and all mod cons on offer. Lodge manager Clint Kemp also doubles up as an excellent cook – conch is served daily in some form or another and fish, lobster and crab claws are frequently on the menu. On top of that, Cuban cigars are never far away.
