Acklins Island Lodge – Spring Point, Acklins
Acklins Island Lodge is a world-renowned, five-bedroom development sitting on the highest and narrowest part of Acklins Island. The spectacular view overlooks the Atlantic Ocean to the east and the Bight of Acklins to the west. A special place.
The fishing
The folks at the lodge reckon it’s not uncommon for inexperienced anglers to catch 6-10 fish in a day. Experienced anglers can catch many more, but usually try to focus on the larger singles and doubles that are also abundant on Acklins’ pristine flats.
The ride to the closest flats is short, usually 10-15 minutes, with the outer flats requiring a 30-minute dash. Acklins flats are mostly very shallow which results in more walking time for the anglers and also requires the use of smaller (size 6-8) unweighted flies. Permit are found feeding along the edges of the flats nearer deeper water. Barracuda and sharks are also frequently encountered so it’s worth having a heavier rod ready.
The facilities
The lodge consists of five small cottages. There are three two-bedroom cottages, each with its own bath, and all are air-conditioned. Each bedroom has two extra-long twin beds that can be made into a king if so desired.
Each bungalow has an oceanfront deck. The main lodge has a large kitchen, a sitting and dining room, a bar and a large deck. Acklins Island Lodge has its own reverse osmosis water system so you can have salt-free showers and fresh drinking water right from the tap.
Dinner is served between 7 and 7.30 pm, with excellent Bahamian cooks specializing in fresh seafood, including fish, lobster and conch.
