Video Goodness: Fly Fishing for Arabian Permit

You’ve probably noticed but there are one or two fishing videos rattling about on the internet these days. One of the things about this proliferation is that it’s hard to come up with truly original, never-been-done-before content. However (and I’m happy to be corrected on this), I think it’s safe to say that no-one has done this before: a film about fly-fishing for permit in Oman.

That’s right. Not the Florida Keys, not Belize or Ascension Bay, not the Seychelles, but Oman. The footage comes courtesy of a man by the name of Ray Montoya, who has been fishing for the sickle-tailed devil on the beaches of southern Oman for years now. As you can see, by way of this smartly shot GoPro action, he’s got it down to a fine art.

On a side point, how refreshing to watch a video that doesn’t bother with the standard-issue  rock soundtrack. It’s just the sound of the waves on the shore, the Tibor drag singing and the wind blowing in off the Arabian Sea. I like.
