Irish Bass Festival 2012

If you live anywhere in or near Europe, you’re probably wearing a woolly hat and an extra pair of socks as you read this. It’s icy out there. At times like this, it’s always good to have something to look forward to – fortunately, such a thing has just arrived in the shape of the Irish Bass Festival 2012.

The brainchild of the folks at Absolute Fishing in Tramore, County Waterford, and Ireland’s first bass lure-fishing event (there’s talk of a fly section also being added), the festival will run from the 20th to 22nd July along the south coast of Ireland. Once registered, anglers are free to roam and fish wherever they please in search of bass.

There are some great packages available for travelling fishermen, including accommodation at the Grand Hotel in Tramore (self-catering can also be arranged), and it’s a great opportunity for anglers to visit Ireland, do some bass fishing along what is some spectacular coastline, meet new people, sample some famous Irish hospitality and, who knows, maybe even choke down a drink or two.

For our US readers, we should point out that these might not be the bass you’re familiar with – they’re a little smaller and they don’t have the stripey pyjamas. What they do have in common is that they hang out in some of the most beautiful places, they’re seriously challenging, and they’re a top-drawer sport fish. So, if any of Stateside folks out there fancy making the pilgrimage, rest assured you’ll be made more than welcome.
