Ireland, here we come…

Bass heaven: Ireland's Copper Coast

In just over 24 hours, I’ll be at the airport waiting to catch a flight from Luton to Waterford, Ireland. Excited doesn’t cover it. The prospect of a few days’ exploring the secluded beaches of the Copper Coast, catching up with friends and getting stuck into some bass has me fidgeting like a five-year-old on Christmas Eve.

From what I hear, the fishing has been pretty tough out there this year. Anyone living in Britain and Ireland will hardly need reminding, but the summer has been far from excellent, and it seems the particularly soggy spell we all endured around April and May has had something of a lasting effect.

It’s hard to know until you actually get out there and start fishing/talking to people face to face, but word is that bass numbers along the Copper Coast have been patchy compared to previous years. I guess I’ll find out a little more in the next couple of days, but whatever happens, I can’t wait. Time spent in the Emerald Isle is always a treat.

As we all know, when it comes to fishing trips, it’s not just about the fishing – it’s about leaving it all behind, making new friends, reconnecting with old ones and generally nourishing the soul. Nowhere does that quite like Ireland.

And, of course, I’ll be expecting plenty of this:

Mmmmmmm, Guinness
