Avalon Cuba Announces Record Year for Permit Fishing

Still searching for that elusive first permit on the fly? If the knowledge that you are not alone doesn’t provide the requisite solace, perhaps it’s time you did something about it. You might want to consider Cuba as an option – Avalon, who preside over much of the island’s lodge-based fishing have just announced their best-ever season in terms of permit landed…

Thanks in part to their new lodge at Cayo Cruz, Avalon report that between August 2012 and July 2013, they notched up 221 in the column marked “black-tailed devil”. Here’s what they had to say:

We are happy to announce that from August 2012 till end of July 2013, the outstanding mark of 221 permits has been reached. The addition of our new destination, Avalon Cayo Cruz, gave us the possibility to offer to all our saltwater clients an unique and very exclusive location for permit fishing.

If you fancy getting in on the action, here’s some more good news: if you book a week at Cayo Cruz or Cayo Largo between August and December 2013, you’ll qualify for the book-on-double/fish-on-single rate. That means you pay double occupancy rates but get a skiff to yourself, thus giving you more time on the casting deck and a better of chance of boating that elusive permit.
