Water Cay – North Grand Bahama
Easily accessible via Freeport, this intimate bonefish lodge offers fishermen the best of both worlds in terms of convenience and isolation. Located three miles off the north coast of Grand Bahama Island, anglers have fast access to a huge area of unpressurised fishing grounds.
The fishing
Hundreds of little cays surround this lodge, putting it at the heart of a massive labyrinth of channels and flats. Head guide Sidney Thomas brings a tremendous bonefish pedigree to the operation having previously worked for all the lodges on Grand Bahama. He and his team guide anglers from high-end, ultra shallow draft Beavertail technical skiffs, ensuring access to even the skinniest of flats. Grand Bahama has traditionally been seen as a poling destination, but there are plenty of wading opportunities here too.
The facilities
In order to ensure minimal impact on the local eco-system, the lodge caters for a maximum of six anglers a week in three rooms. All the rooms are air-conditioned with comfy twin-sized beds, ceiling fans and a view of the flats.
The main lodge has a phone line, a satellite TV and 24/7 wireless internet access. There’s also a fully-stocked bar.
All the water for the lodge is produced and filtered by an extensive reverse osmosis system allowing guests to have purified water right from their bathroom taps.
