Located 13 miles from Spring Point Airport, this family-run lodge sits on the northern beach of Mason Bay, inside the Bight of Acklins. Guests can fish with a guide, try their hand at DIY bonefishing, or mix and match to get the best of both worlds. With flats right out the door and large numbers of fish, this is a great place for the intrepid, go-it-alone bonefisherman.

The fishing

Guided fishing (done from 16’ Carolina Skiffs) will generally see you heading south to Jamaica Caye, north to Lovely Bay or plenty of other spots far out in the Bight of Acklins.

This being Acklins Island, there is still comparatively little fishing pressure and the bones are less spooky than some of their other Bahamian cousins. The Top Choice guides reckon the average fish here is in 4-6lb range with some larger singles and the odd double figure fish among them. Besides bonefish, you will encounter barracuda and the occasional permit.

The facilities

Rustic, friendly and family-run would probably be the watchwords here, rather than sophistication or luxury. But then, if you’re here, you’re here to fish. Top Choice Lodge can accommodate a maximum of eight anglers at any one time. The four double bedrooms are all air-conditioned, all have ocean views, TVs and refrigerators.

Rates

7 nights/6 days fishing $2,700 (single occupancy: $3,200)

For non-guided fishing days, subtract $125 for double occupancy or $250 for single occupancy
