The fishing
The fishing season at Toon Ken runs from January through April. Just upstream from its world-renowned sister resort, Kau Tapen, anglers here also have access to some of the Rio Grande’s most intimate stretches. The fish here average 10lb or so, with many upwards of 20lb. Fishing is predominantly done with single-handed rods and floating/intermediate lines, although double-handers have become more popular in recent years.
The facilities
Custom-built in 2003, the new Toon Ken lodge is designed to offer rods maximum comfort during their fishing trip, as well as easy accessibility to the pools. It accommodates up to seven guests in two twin rooms and four single rooms, all of which are equipped with en-suite facilities.
Additionally, there is a large sitting and dining area (which opens up onto a verandah overlooking the Rio Grande), sauna and Jacuzzi, large roaring fire, well-stocked bar, tackle shop and fly-tying table.
