Opened by John Ireland back in 1981, this secluded lodge on Baja’s East Cape has it all: 34 air-conditioned units are dotted among the beautiful 350-acre grounds, a fleet of 20 boats ready to take you to some of the area’s finest fishing and enough amenities to make this a family destination as much as purely a fishing one.

The fishing

Marlin, tuna, wahoo, dorado and sailfish can be caught offshore, or you can tackle up in one of the super pangas for a day chasing roosterfish, jack, dorado and pargo snapper inshore. If you fancy something a little different, try taking out one of Leonero’s specially designed kayaks – you can explore the reef for pargo, pompano, roosterfish and sierra, or paddle to the boat moorings for dorado and tuna. A great alternative to shore fishing, and only $10/hr or $40 a day.

The facilities

Swimming pool, bar, dining room, ocean-front patio, gym, 34 rooms and a fleet of 20 boats.

Prices

Ranging from $120 per night for a standard room up to $250 per night for a bungalow with sea view. (Fishing is extra)

Packages rates also available. EG: Five-night stay in a standard bungalow with 4 days fishing: £1,404 per person (price based on two people per room/ two people per crusier)
