Pez Raton Fishing Lodge – Los Roques, Venezuela
This small operation on Gran Roque caters for up to 10 guests at a time. Enthusiastic and dedicated guides specialise in flats fishing for bonefish, permit and tarpon, with plenty of other species also available.
The fishing
Venezuela’s Los Roques archipelago is famous for wadeable turtle grass flats, excellent numbers of tailing bonefish and the possibility of getting into tarpon in the channels. Quite often, you don’t even have to leave the Gran Roque harbour to find feeding bones.
The guides at Pez raton will have you fishing from either traditional pinero boats or shallow water skiffs, depending on conditions. Pez Raton boast that: “In one day you can enjoy some fine, productive bonefishing to tailing fish, you can hook big-eye jack, land flag yellow-tail snappers and jump baby tarpon in the 10-30 lb class as well as cast to fish in the 100 lbs calls rolling in deeper water but perfectly catchable or chase permit in the deep white sand flats.”
Lodging & facilities
The lodge has a laid-back, rustic feel, with space for a maximum of 10 anglers in its five air-conditioned rooms. All rooms feature security safes, plasma TV, wi-fi and en-suite bathrooms and the posada, deservedly, has a reputation for excellent food. The overall atmosphere is great – and one that makes this a good option for those travelling with non-fishing companions…
