Pete and Gay’s Guesthouse – Sandy Point, Abaco, Bahamas
Located at the south-western point of Abaco, in Sandy Point, this guesthouse has been catering to fly-fishing enthusiasts for 20 years. With seriously competitive rates, it’s a great option for the budget-conscious fly-fisherman.
The fishing
Pete and Gay’s is perfectly positioned for fast access to the local bonefishing grounds. Guides can take anglers north (towards the Marls) east or west, depending on the conditions, but whichever direction you go, you’re likely to encounter large numbers of medium-sized bonefish (3-6lb) and plenty more in the double digit class. Gorda Cay and Mores Island are also nearby – if you had to pick one place in the Bahamas for a shot at a permit, it would probably be one of those locations, so come suitably prepared.
The facilities
Friendly, comfy and clean without being luxurious, Pete and Gay’s is based in a two-story building with space for a maximum of 10 anglers. All rooms are air-conditioned with private bathrooms. Bahamian classics are served at night in the dining room, including cracked conch, grouper fingers, and crawfish. There’s also a sports bar and games room featuring a projection TV.
Rates
4 nights/3 days fishing $1,673 (single occupancy: $2,788)
7 nights/6 days fishing $3,110 (single occupancy: $5,227)

This is not a lodge, it is a 1 star motel. Average food high in fat with cheap ingredients. Motel taken over by locals on Friday and Saturday slamming doors until 4:00 AM complete with guns drawn police action. Owner could care less if you have a good time. Nothing to do there but fish and the guides will only fish until 4. No walk to fish that I could find. Crummy view too – not really on water. Way overpriced.
