Peacock Bay Lodge – Gran Sabana, Venezuela
Head off to the south-eastern reaches of Venezuela in search of the world’s most colourful and aggressive predator – the peacock bass. It’s remote and a long way from most places, but it’s worth it. Staying at Peacock Bay Lodge gives the angler a genuine chance of catching a 15lb-plus peacock bass and the possibility of hooking up to an average of 10 to 20 fish a day.
The fishing
Fishing takes place on the vast Lake Guri which sits on the edge la Gran Sabana in the south-east of Venezuela. The lake is home to a huge population of hungry and aggressive peacock bass. They’re not too fussy about what flies and lure they’re presented with but it’s always a good idea to take a variety of sizes and colours. Click here for a comprehensive guide to peacock bass tackle.
Fishing is done from 18′ to 21′ fibreglass and aluminium boats equipped with 40 horsepower outboards, troll motors and electronic LCR depth finders. All peacock bass are released back into the lake except for a few that are taken for food.
