The fishing

Bonefish, permit and tarpon abound within minutes of the Monkey River Retreat and Seal Caye. At Monkey River you can fish the river and the cays for tarpon before breakfast and you can be on the permit flats in 25 minutes and the southern tarpon holes in 30 minutes.
At the reef lodge on Seal Caye, you are minutes from the bonefish flats and more opportunities for permit, barracuda, and the possibility of tuna, mackerel, and other reef and bluewater species.
An added draw is that the fishing program is headed up by legendary local guide, Eloy Quevas. His personal calendar fills up quickly, but he also selects and trains the best guides in the area, all of whom are available to you here.

The facilities

The mainland lodge, Monkey River Retreat, sits at the mouth of Monkey River, in remote southern Belize. It features a dock, restaurant, and two large cabañas that can each accommodate up to three people. The cabañas have private bathrooms, showers and plenty of hot water and decks that overlook the beach. Electricity is provided by generators and 110v outlets are available in each cabaña. Wireless internet is also available.
The lodge at Seal Caye is about 18 miles off the coast in the Sapodilla Cayes and has dock, restaurant, kitchen, staff and guide quarters, and accommodations for six guests. There is a large yurt with dining/bar area, shower and bathroom, and two rooms that that each have a queen and single bed. The huge deck under the mangroves is used for most meals. The other cabana with two queens and its own bath and shower extends over the edge of the water on the windward side. All power on Seal Caye is solar.
A lot of guests spend a couple of days at Monkey River then go to the reef lodge on Seal Caye for a couple of days.
