Long Key State Park – Long Key
Fishing and accommodation in the Florida Keys can be expensive, and with limited access to the water for those who like DIY flats fishing, it can be hard to keep costs down. Long Key State Park is one of the few places where you can wade right from the shore for bonefish, and with camping rates starting at $36 per night, this is a solid budget option.

The fishing
If you’re looking for a place to do some DIY bonefishing in the Florida Keys, Long Key State Park is one of the few places you should have on your list. You can either visit for the day (admission prices below) or camp here and fish the tides as and when they suit – best times are usually early in the morning before the people arrive.
Running directly off the campsite, these flats are beautiful and expansive, and home to some monstrous fish, with bones running to double figures and the odd permit known to make an appearance. Be warned – the fishing is tough here, but it’s a fantastic challenge for the DIY enthusiast.
Lodging & facilities
There are 60 individual spots within the campsite, all overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. Each comes with a picnic table, ground grill, water and electricity. Three restrooms, with hot showers, are centrally located.
Canoes can also be rented on site, with a self-guided brochure available for The Long Key Lakes Canoe Trail.

$5* per vehicle (limit 2-8 people per vehicle)
$2* pedestrians, bicyclists, extra passengers, passengers in vehicle with holder of Annual Individual Entrance Pass
$4* single-occupant vehicle or motorcycle.
*Plus $.50 per person Monroe County Surcharge.
