The fishing

Fishing in Sitka gives the angler the opportunity to fish for halibut and salmon in the same day, rather than having to devote a day to either species, as you might elsewhere. Proximity to the open ocean provides a steady supply of fish, while the islands, bays, and passageways provide sheltered waters for fishing.

Prime halibut fishing is May through September, when you can expect to tangle with 30-50lb fish, always with the chance of running into something much bigger, sometimes as large as 300lbs.

As for salmon fishing, May through July is best for king salmon, while silver salmon are present in good numbers from June to September.

The facilities

There are five lodge buildings, each of which feature several guest rooms with private baths, spacious living rooms, kitchens and spectacular view balconies. The living rooms are appointed with sofas, recliners and large screen televisions for your relaxation after a long day of fishing. Other amenities include: wireless internet, laundry facilities, telephones and refrigerators.

Food takes centre stage here too. Your day starts with a hearty breakfast, lunch is served on the boat (deli sandwiches on homemade bread), appetizers are served in your living room when you get in from fishing, and the dinners, featuring local seafood and prime steak, are legendary.
