This recently refurbished, 75’ yacht is another of Avalon’s live-aboard options in the Jardines de la Reina fishery. With six cabins and recommended for groups of 8-10 anglers, the ability of the Halcon to travel means your group can explore some of the most remote and least pressured parts of this superb mixed fishery.

The fishing

Cuba’s unique position as a land mostly untouched by outside influence has given rise to one major blessing – the island’s fisheries have remained similarly free from the rigours associated with commercial pressure. The Jardines de la Reina archipelago is a shining example of that – a pristine, unspoilt fishery filled with bonefish, permit, tarpon, jacks, barracuda, sharks, snapper and snook. This is a special place to fish, and they have the guides to match. According Avalon themselves, “The guides enjoy enthusiastic anglers and love to work long days, allowing you to fish as hard as you want.

In addition to that, fishing from the Halcon allows you to access some of the more remote spots in this area, and you will frequently be anchored just minutes from the flats. That means less time travelling, more time fishing and the option of fishing late into the evening. It also gives you the option of a lunchtime nap on the mothership, should you feel inclined.

All Avalon destinations are equipped with Dolphin 16’ Super Skiff Pros, complete with removable aluminium leaning post.

The facilities

All of the Halcon cabins have air-conditioning, plenty of storage space and good showers with lots of hot water. On the main deck is a large air-conditioned salon were you can hang out with a drink or two before (and after) dinner. You’ll also find a TV, DVD and stereo, allowing you to either watch movies or hook up video cameras to watch the fishing videos you shoot during the day.

The captain of the boat knows a number of secluded spots in which to moor the Halcon, but will always endeavour to choose a spot with a breeze in order to eliminate bug problems.
