Bonefish Paradise – Deadman’s Cay, Long Island, Bahamas
The clue’s in the title here. Overlooking Lowe’s Beach on Deadman’s Cay, Long Island, Bonefish Paradise lodge has five bedrooms, some of the area’s top guides and 200 square miles of bonefish flats on its doorstep. Some of the most competitive rates around make this an appealing destination for the budget-conscious bonefisherman.
The fishing
Bonefish are the mainstay here, with huge numbers of fish resident on the local flats, and double-digit specimens frequently encountered. You can also expect (but not rely on) occasional shots at tarpon and permit.
The lodge has four Rahming bonefish skiffs, with poling platforms, all skippered by knowledgeable, hard-working local guides. Dwayne Knowles, Elvis, Ivan and Champ are the men in the hot seat, all of whom will happily cater for all experience levels – from the first-time bonefishers in need of fly-casting tuition to the experienced angler.
The lodge is a 10-minute drive from the boats, and from there it’s a further five or 10 minutes to the inner flats or 30 minutes north to the outer flats.
The facilities
The lodge has five rooms, all with twin beds, air conditioning, ceiling fan, ensuite bathroom and carpet floors. All rooms open onto a patio and meals are served on the veranda, or in the dining room. Fresh seafood is a specialty, but all dietary requirements can be accommodated.
Bahamas Air, Pineapple Air and Southern Air all have regular schedules to Long Island, with most offering daily flights. Long Island has two airports: Deadman’s Cay in the south and Stella Maris in the north. We recommend flying into the Deadman’s Cay Airport .
