Roughly 250 miles south-west of Mahé, Alphonse Island Resort is about as remote as fishing lodges get – located in the Indian Ocean, this destination gives fly-fishermen the chance to fish the legendary waters of Alphonse, Bojitier and St. Francois.

Catering to 10 anglers at a time, the resort offers single-occupancy accommodation in luxury chalets, top-of-the-line Seychellois fishing guides, complete isolation and, of course, access to some serious flats fishing. Alphonse and St Francois are home to bountiful numbers of bonefish, milkfish, triggerfish, trevally, Indo-Pacific permit) and plenty more.

The fishing

As with all Seychelles fishing, variety is key to the appeal here. The bonefishing around Alphonse and St Francois is beyond excellent, rated by some as the world’s finest. Bones aside, this is one of the premier destinations to hunt that other famous Seychelles resident – the milkfish. These rocket-propelled algae-eaters are present in large numbers, growing to 40lbs+ and presenting one of the toughest challenges to even the most skilled of fly-fishermen. Then there’s triggerfish, eight species of trevally (including GTs of course), Indo-Pacific permit and plenty more.

Anglers are transported between the resort and the flats every morning by way of a 40’ mothership called Tam Tam. From there, fishermen board skiffs (two anglers per guide) and head off to the flats around St. Francois. Most of the fishing is done by wading, but the skiffs come in handy when targeting GTs and milkfish in the cuts or dogtooth tuna in deeper water.

The Guides

Catering to just 10 anglers allows for a highly focused, personalised level of service. The guides themselves are experienced and dedicated. Fishing is tide-dependent, and with a huge variety of species to target, the hardest part may well be choosing what to go after on any given day. Your guide will be able to assist of course.

Lodging & facilities

This might be a remote and isolated destination, but the amenities don’t suffer for it. Guests are accommodated in luxury air-conditioned chalets, each with a thatched roof and sea-facing veranda, a TV and mini-bar. All have a large queen-size bed (twin beds on request), a spacious en-suite bathroom with Jacuzzi-style bath and an outside shower.
